Comme les 18 autres candidats, Anta Babacar Ngom, novice en politique et opposante, a moins de deux semaines pour défendre son programme et se faire connaitre « de tous les Sénégalais ». C’est une semaine de moins que le temps prévu par le code électoral.
Après plus d’un mois d’incertitude et une crise sans précédent liée au report du scrutin, le président Macky Sall a fixé l’élection au 24 mars. Pour tous les candidats, il faut s’adapter au plus vite, réajuster la stratégie, accélérer le calendrier. La campagne a commencé samedi. Elle s’achève le 22 mars à minuit.
« Identifiez-moi comme la candidate des femmes, identifiez-moi comme la femme candidate, je l’assume pleinement. Par contre, je suis la candidate de tous les Sénégalais », dit-elle à l’AFP.
La cheffe d’entreprise de 40 ans, patronne depuis 2015 de la plus grande entreprise avicole du pays fondée par son père, la Sedima, a pour ambition de briser les barrières et devenir la première présidente de la République de son pays.
– Stratégie –
« Il faut se poser la question de savoir pourquoi les femmes ne s’impliquent pas assez en politique », déclare-t-elle. « Peut-être parce qu’on leur a fait croire depuis longtemps qu’une femme ne peut pas être présidente de la République de ce pays-là. Moi je n’y crois pas ».
Le Sénégal passe pour un bon élève de la parité en politique; 44% des sièges de l’Assemblée nationale sont occupés par des femmes, un record en Afrique de l’Ouest. Certaines femmes ont été candidates par le passé à la présidentielle.
Mais attitudes et lois patriarcales restent profondément enracinées dans cette société réputée pour son attachement aux valeurs traditionnelles de l’Islam.
Vêtue d’une tunique bleue qui se fond à la couleur du ciel crépusculaire, Anta Babacar Ngom salue la foule tout sourire et lève le poing. Aux fenêtres et balcons, les habitants se penchent pour voir défiler la candidate et son cortège.
Son programme s’articule autour de la création d’emplois via l’aide au secteur privé, la protection de l’environnement, la gratuité des soins pour les plus vulnérables et une réforme du système éducatif avec des cours donnés dans les langues locales et non plus seulement en français.
