Afrique du Sud : la présidente de l’Assemblée perquisitionnée pour corruption

Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula devait présider une session du Parlement mardi, au cours de laquelle les députés ont posé des questions au président Cyril Ramaphosa. Elle ne s’est pas présentée et c’est le vice-président du Parlement qui a supervisé les questions.

Une unité d’enquête spéciale en Afrique du Sud a perquisitionné le domicile de la présidente du Parlement pendant plus de cinq heures mardi et a saisi des preuves dans le cadre d’une enquête sur des accusations selon lesquelles elle aurait accepté des pots-de-vin dans ses fonctions antérieures de ministre de la Défense.

L’opération de perquisition et de saisie au domicile de Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula, qui est une législatrice chevronnée du parti au pouvoir, le Congrès national africain, a été confirmée dans une déclaration du Parlement. La présidente a nié tout acte répréhensible et « réaffirme qu’elle n’a rien à cacher », selon le communiqué. Elle a coopéré avec les enquêteurs, selon le Parlement.

L’enquête sur Mapisa-Nqakula, 67 ans, a été rendue publique ce mois-ci par un journal, qui a déclaré qu’elle était soupçonnée d’avoir reçu au moins 120 000 dollars de pots-de-vin d’un entrepreneur de la défense entre 2016 et 2019. L’argent lui a été livré en espèces dans des sacs cadeaux, selon le journal The Sunday Times.

Un porte-parole de l’Autorité nationale des poursuites a déclaré que l’opération de recherche avait été menée par sa direction d’enquête.
