Marcel Niat Njifenji réélu président du Sénat camerounais pour la 11è fois

Le sénateur de la région de l’Ouest a remporté l’élection ce vendredi 22 mars 2024 au cours de la séance plénière au Palais des congrès de Yaoundé.

L’équipe dirigeante de la Chambre haute du Parlement camerounais est connue. Au terme des élections tenues au cours de la séance plénière en cours, Marcel Niat Njifenji est réélu à la tête du Sénat. Pour la 11è fois consécutive, le sénateur de la région de l’Ouest, 90 ans, était l’unique candidat à sa propre succession. Le président du groupe parlementaire du RDPC conduit par le sénateur Calvin Zang Oyono a présenté sa candidature au bureau d’âge. Au terme de l’élection, Marcel Niat Njifenji, unique candidat à sa propre succession, a obtenu 91 voix sur 95 votants contre quatre bulletins nuls. Marcel Niat Njifenji est le tout premier président du Sénat créé en 1996 et mis en fonction en 2013. Sénateur nommé en 2013, il a été élu président de Chambre dès cette année-là. Depuis lors, le natif de Bagangte dans le département du Nde est à son troisième mandat en tant que sénateur. Il entame à l’issue de cette élection, son 11è mandat consécutif en qualité de président du bureau de la Chambre haute du Parlement. Sa reconduction intervient quelques heures après celui de Cavaye Yeguié Djibril à la tête de la Chambre basse du Parlement. Une certaine opinion a, ces derniers temps, insisté sur l’état de santé du sénateur, pensant qu’il serait un handicap à son investiture par le parti du pouvoir. Malgré cet état de santé et les appels insistants au changement, le Rassemblement démocratique du peuple camerounais a maintenu le statut quo aussi bien à l’Assemblée nationale qu’au Sénat.
